Discernment

The act of discernment refers to determining the value or perceiving something. As a spiritual discipline, discernment is a process of listening for God’s movement in a situation or decision. While there are many spiritual practices to assist in this listening, a variety of experiences and activities are also available through which participation may make God’s voice more clear.

Listening for God’s Call

With the awareness that while at camp, surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation, the location itself can lead to thinking big thoughts and imagining and praying about where God is leading and to what God is calling. Add to that a caring and faithful staff and big things can happen in Sr. High Leadership Camps. Listening for God's Call was created as a supplement to the popular Career and Calling: A Guide for Counselors, Youth, and Young Adults, available from the Thoughtful Christian.

d365 logoD365.org — daily devotions to take you deeper into faith!

D365's daily devotions were written by ministers, professors, students, teachers, missionaries, denominational leaders, and others who work with and care for youth. An author typically writes one week of devotions.  D365.org is a free resource.  It’s easy to use and easy to share.  When you begin to practice the d365 daily devotion you might find that this small amount of time becomes something you need, something you crave; a way you communicate with God.

Communal Discernment: Choosing with God in Community

We as Christians seek to grow closer in relationship with God.  A challenge in doing this is how to make our life choices better reflect God’s values.  In the early stages of our spiritual lives this may seem a rather simple and clear-cut practice.  As individuals, seeking to do good and avoid evil can carry us a long way.  For some people this simple focus remains profound and spiritually rich.  Perhaps the circumstances of their lives are such that they face few complex questions.
