A partner conference as a part of the PC(USA) Big Tent
The National Elders Conference is for ruling elders who want to more faithfully serve with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love as they guide their congregations to become communities of faith, hope, love, and witness. This conference offers a variety of opportunities for education and growth, including full-day elder training on Friday in English, Korean, and Spanish.

The National Elders Conference will host dessert and an opportunity to meet other registrants. At 7:30 pm, PC(USA) associate for worship David Gambrell will offer brief remarks on ruling elders as worship leaders, and invite participants to assist with closing worship at Big Tent.

Ruling Elders in the Midst of Change
What does it mean to be a Ruling Elder in a rapidly changing church? What are the changes out there for the Presbyterian Church (USA)? Leadership is even more important in a time of huge transitions. This workshop will explore the role of the Ruling Elder as defined by the Book of Order and by our local contexts. Please come ready to share stories, questions and ideas. Leader: Gradye Parsons, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly.
Young Adult Ruling Elders: Serving as Congregation Leaders
A panel of young adult ruling elders, along with Bruce Reyes-Chow, former General Assembly moderator who moderated a session composed of primarily young adults, will share from their experiences about the opportunities and challenges a congregation has when young adults are leading and guiding the witness of the congregation. Young adults and session moderators are encouraged to come and share in the conversation. Facilitator: Ruling Elder, Rob Fohr, Young Adult Catalyst, Presbyterian Mission Agency.

This workshop will give an overview of Presbyterian polity, its history and theology, and the way it influences the life of a congregation and the ministry of ruling elders. The Ministry of Ruling Elders After Session Service
Whether you have just completed your first term on session or the fifth, questions always arise for ruling elders at the end of their service: How do you manage that transition and let go? How do you resist the temptation to simply fade away? What is the role of an inactive Ruling Elder? How can you appropriately stay engaged and involved as one ordained to ordered ministry? Ruling elders are invited to bring their morning coffee and to come and sit down with Gradye Parsons, Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (USA), to discuss the state of the church and current issues in the life of the denomination.
Keeping the Foundations Before You
As the session leads and guides the witness of the congregation, the session it is to keep before it the marks of the Church, the notes by which Presbyterian and Reformed congregations have identified themselves and the Great Ends of the Church. Ruling elders are invited to come explore what these foundations of Presbyterian polity are and how the inform the work of the session. “Discern and Measure”
In G-2.0301, ruling elders are ordained to “discern and measure” the fidelity of the congregation to the Word of God and to strengthen and nurture its faith and life.” What does that mean and how do we live out that responsibility, whether or not we are actively serving on session? Women’s Leadership in the Immigrant Context: The Korean Case
At its 2009 annual meeting, the National Council of Korean Presbyterian Churches (NCKPC) received a report prepared by an NCKPC special committee to study the current status of women’s leadership in Korean congregations. This was a bold step in an effort to lead Korean congregations into the 21st century. The report and study document also contains recommendations for promoting gender equality and equity in Korean churches. You are invited to learn about the findings and engage in a dialogue about promoting the leadership of women ruling rulers in Korean congregations in the PC(USA). 21세기를 향한 한인교회의 비존은 전문적인 목회자 중심에서 교회 공동체의 목회로 전환하는 것이라고 NCKPC는 2003년 총회에서 선언하였습니다. 여성은 교회 공동체의 반 이상을 차지합니다. NCKPC는 2007년에 여성지도력 강화 특별연구위원회를 구성하였고, 이 위원회는 2009년에 연구결과와 향상방안을 담은 리포트를 NCKPC총회에 제출하였습니다. 이 웤숍은 이 리포트에 담긴 연구결과와 향상방안을 나누고 대화하며 함께 우리가 갈 길을 찾아가는 기회가 될 것입니다.

Peace by Piece: Tools for Building a Pastoral Care Practice for Ruling Elders and Deacons
This workshop is designed to teach the basic tools of pastoral care and the art of spiritual presence to Ruling Elders and Deacons who minister to the sick, suffering, broken, and dying in their congregations and communities. The workshop is led by two hospital chaplains, one who ministers primarily to adult oncology patients and their families and one who ministers primarily to pediatric ICU patients and their families. This workshop will help participants to understand the emotional and spiritual needs of those for whom they care and will teach pastoral care interventions for helping others to find peace and healing in their suffering. Specific topics covered will include: communication and listening skills; dealing with grief and loss; theological questions; death and dying; religious rituals, and self-care. Leaders: Rev. Called to Discipleship: Preparing Church Officers for Leadership
The Book of Order calls for preparation of church officers for leadership in the church. This workshop will look at some basic elements of ordained leadership and explore ways those elements can be instilled in Elders and Deacons for effective and dynamic service.
