PC(USA) young women attend UN Commission on the Status of Women

Women’s Leadership Development program empowers female millennials for action and advocacy

Fourteen young women from across the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) shared their experiences after participating in the 60th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held March 10–18 in New York. The delegation was organized through a partnership between the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations, Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries and Presbyterian Women. Their presence was made possible due to the special consultative status the PC(USA) holds through the U.N. Economic and Social Council.

During its 60th session the commission addressed its priority theme, women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development, and evaluated progress toward a key goal of the 57th session, elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls. Read full story.

PC(USA) Women of Faith Awards presented at Presbyterian Mission Agency Board meeting

The Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has named the recipients of the 2016 Women of Faith Awards at the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board today at its meeting in Louisville.

Lucy Apatiki, Sarah Noble-Moag and Clarissa Walker Whaley, all Ruling Elders in the PC(USA), were approved following recommendations from the Women of Faith committee. Nominations are received from throughout the church.  A committee of representatives from groups related to the mission agency’s Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries ministry area and the Presbyterian Mission Agency select honorees.

The three women will be honored at the Women of Faith breakfast on Sunday, June 19, during the 222nd General Assembly in Portland, Oregon.  The theme for this year’s awards is “Women Building Bridges of Reconciliation.”   Read the full press release

Racial Ethnic & Women's Ministries pledges to work with Presbyterian Women and Bread for the World to support Women of Faith 1,000 Days Movement

The first 1,000 days of a child's life, from the start of a woman's pregnancy until the child's second birthday, have an enormous impact on a child's ability to grow, learn and rise out of poverty. Racial Ethnic & Women's Ministries, in partnership with Presbyterian Women in the PC(USA), Bread for the World, and the 1,000 Days Movement, is working to raise awareness and identify resources for Presbyterians to learn more about maternal and child nutrition during this critical period. PW and RE&WM have pledged, through its partnership with Bread's Women of Faith for the 1,000 Days, to hold conversations around the importance of child nutrition, and communicate to Presbyterians and others about the 1,000 Days movement.
