HIV and AIDS General Assembly policy statements
In 1983, the first General Assembly action of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) regarding HIV and AIDS voted to “…become an advocate of God’s justice by expressing the concern of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) at the immensity and complexity of this escalating epidemic…” Since that time, the General Assembly has adopted papers and resolutions, and approved policy statements regarding HIV and AIDS as the needs and concerns of the church members were voiced, as the epidemic grew into a pandemic and as it became apparent that greater financial resources were needed to fight this devastating disease.
