New Children’s Curriculum Coming Soon

“God’s Creation, Our Health: Taking Action Together” Will Connect Faith and Eco-Justice

PC(USA) Environmental Ministries and the Office of Child Advocacy are partnering to create a new a 4-session curriculum to engage older elementary children in discipleship.  God’s Creation, Our Health: Taking Action Together, will be released in the fall of 2011.

The resource will use a children’s advocacy group, CAMBIALO in La Oroya, Peru, as an example of how children can work as advocates for themselves in the field of eco-justice.  Through a virtual partnership with peers in Peru, children will:

  • Explore what our faith has to say about environmental stewardship
  • Speak out about environmental contamination and what it does to children’s health
  • Learn how to be advocates for children’s rights and environmental justice
  • Take action to protect God’s creation and children’s health

Learn more about CAMBIALO, a project of the Joining Hands Network in La Oroya, Peru, through a video created by the children of CAMBIALO and produced by Mission co-worker Jed Koball

La Oroya is one of the ten most polluted places on earth, and 97% of children in La Oroya have toxic levels of lead in their blood, due to contamination from the American-owned Doe Run smelter. Through CAMBIALO, the children of La Oroya are learning how to speak out to protect their health and the environment.  Stay tuned for more information on the curriculum, which will be available online in the fall.
